Living with a family

The Shared Lives scheme offers vulnerable adults the opportunity to live with approved families and carers within their local community.

How to access the service

Referrals to the service are made by social workers. If you want to use this service, you will need to make a financial contribution towards living costs.

Our carers

How we assess carers

Carers are assessed for their suitability and must meet rigorous assessment, recruitment and reference requirements before they can offer their home to a vulnerable person.

Who can be a carer

All potential carers are aged over 21, live in Lewisham and have a suitable spare bedroom to offer. They are given payments, support and regular training.

How carers and vulnerable adults are matched

Carers and vulnerable adults are matched based on shared interests. Introductory visits are organised so that the carers and vulnerable adults can become familiar and comfortable with each other.
