Corporate performance report

This performance information demonstrates how we are performing against statutory requirements, as well as some of our core strategic aims and objectives.

Lewisham is an ambitious council and our Corporate Strategy 2022-26 sets out our priorities for the coming months and years.

We are focusing on working with Lewisham’s residents and partners to make life better for people who live, work and study in our borough.

We know that housing is a priority for many local people. Over the last few years, some of our key achievements have included delivering over 1,200 homes for local families and supporting private renters by issuing over 1,700 enforcement notices to landlords who fall below the standards we expect.

We’re committed to creating places people feel safe and healthy. We’ve introduced 45 school streets since 2018 and introduced 119 new cycle hangars, which has helped to improve air quality by 40% on average across the borough.

We understand the power that culture has to transform lives, create strong communities and drive employment, which is why we targeted, won and have become the Mayor of London’s London Borough of Culture for 2022, bringing £2.3m of investment to local artists, musicians and businesses, as well as training and employment opportunities for residents.

In 2018, we set out that we want Lewisham to be a Sanctuary Borough, welcoming those fleeing violence and persecution in their own countries and protecting the rights of all migrants, asylum seekers and refugees. In 2020, we became the UK’s first Borough of Sanctuary.

Our schools are improving, and 97% are now rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted, and more families than ever are choosing Lewisham schools.

Our award-winning Youth Justice Service has contributed to a 38% reduction in young people entering the criminal justice system, one of the biggest drops in London.
