Lewisham Council - Home library service

Home library service

We offer a high quality home library delivery service to those people who by reason of disability, illness, age or being a ‘carer’ cannot get into the library to select their own books.

There is no age limit on this service and it is completely free. Those who use the home library service include children who are temporarily out of school, adults recovering from illness, older housebound people and registered members of the RNIB.

We offer a free monthly service delivering:

  • books in normal or large print
  • talking books in CD or tape format
  • music CDs
  • free newspapers
  • some films on DVD.

We also organise special events in libraries to which we provide transport for home library users. Once registered with us, you will receive a monthly visit from a regular library staff member who will get to know you and build up a profile of your needs to ensure that we bring what you want. You can make specific requests, which are also provided free of charge. We will also advise on reading choices and give you new authors to try.

We are based at Lewisham Library, but enquiries about the service can be made at any library.

We also offer an eLibrary service.
