  • If you want to do a GCSE course, read the course description below and try the course taster activities.
  • Before your pre-course assessment, you need to do a maths or English task. This will help us decide if you are ready to study at GCSE level.
  • You can’t enrol on a GCSE (9–1) course if you have not done the task.

English Language GCSE

  • Our English Language course will develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
  • You will study a range of fiction and non-fiction texts from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Exam dates for 2018

  • Paper 1: fiction and imaginative writing, 5 June 2018
  • Paper 2: non-fiction and transactional writing, 8 June 2018

Course taster

Pre-course assessment task

  • You need to do an English task before your pre-course assessment.
  • The task takes 90 minutes and involves reading, comprehension and creative writing.
  • You can pick up the English task from one of our adult education centres when you book your assessment or we can send it to you by email.
  • You need to do the task and bring it to your pre-course assessment.
