Lewisham offers a weekly kerbside collection service for your recycling. We provide you with either a green wheelie bin or a green box for your recycling.
You can recycle your paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, tins and cans and plastic bottles.

Don’t forget, we can only recycle as much as you separate from your rubbish bin. Around 60% of your household waste is made up of recyclable materials.
How to request a recycling box or bin
If you do not yet have a recycling green box or bin near your home and would like to arrange one please contact us using the details below.
We will endeavour to deliver your wheelie bin or box to you within one to three weeks.
When will you empty my recycling box(es)?
Recycling boxes are emptied once a week. For 95% households this will be on the same day as your refuse collection. Please leave your recycling box at the edge of your property for collection by 7am. If you have more recycling than you can fit in your green box you may leave additional bags of recyclables by the side of your box for collection, or you can order up to three boxes.

How should I prepare for recycling?
- rinse all bottles and jars
- make sure all paper is clean
- make sure cardboard is flat-packed
- wash out cans to keep your collection containers clean and avoid contamination.
Do I have to wash things out?
It is more pleasant for you and the recycling crews if you do, as your box will be kept clean, free from smells and will not attract animals and flies.
Can I recycle if I live in a flat?
If you live in a multi-occupancy building (with three or more households) we can provide green wheelie bins to collect all the same materials that we collect in the door to door recycling scheme: paper and card, glass, and tins/cans.
