The Council has been successful in ensuring that more parents and children are getting a school of their preference each year.

  • Primary schools: in April 2012, 92% of primary school applicants who live in Lewisham were successful in getting one of their preferred schools, compared to 93% the previous year. Every child for whom an on-time application was made has been offered a place.
  • Secondary schools: .on 1 March 2012, 96.7% of secondary school applicants who live in Lewisham were successful in getting one of their preferred schools, compared to 94.9% in March 2011. Lewisham has ensured that every Year 6 child has been offered a secondary school place.

Transferring to a different school mid-year

Parents who wish their child to transfer to another school mid year ie at any time other than the normal stages (into Reception class or from Year 6 to Year 7) should first discuss the reasons for the move with the headteacher of the current primary school as often problems and difficulties can be resolved without the need to move school. Parents who wish to proceed with a transfer must complete an In-Year Common Application Form (iCAF) which is available from the home local authority.

Lewisham residents wishing to make an in-year application for a primary school place need to complete a Lewisham iCAF and include:

  • a copy of the current year's council tax bill to verify their home address
  • a current copy of the child benefit letter or child tax credit letter to confirm the applicant has parental responsibility.
