Laban dancers

The arts are at the heart of Lewisham. The borough hosts some of the biggest and best loved festivals in south London and is home to the award-winning Laban contemporary dance conservatoire, the  Albany performing arts venue, the Broadway theatre and the Horniman Museum. Over 2,000 artists and 550 creative industries are also based in Lewisham, offering a wealth of arts activities for every age and ability.

Arts Service

Lewisham Arts Service supports and promotes artists and arts organisations in the borough across all disciplines. We nurture networks and partnerships, run grants schemes, offer free marketing support and provide regular funding to the major organisations delivering activities that support the Council's priorities.

Arts aims

Our vision is to make Lewisham a creative borough with a thriving arts sector, vibrant communities and active residents. To achieve this the Arts Service has four strategic aims:

  • sense of place
  • creative economy
  • creativity and skills
  • active, cohesive communities.

More information about these aims will be available in the new Arts Strategy, to be published soon.
