Work permits
The Children and Young Persons Act 1933 requires Local Authorities to enforce the regulation of Child Employment. Therefore, when a school-aged pupil (between the age of 13 to 16) is offered part-time employment within the London Borough of Lewisham, and will be employed by the company on a regular basis, the employer has a statutory responsibility to inform Lewisham Child Employment Section.
In agreement with the child and parent, the employer is required to submit a 'child employment application form' to the London Borough of Lewisham within the first five days of employment. Follow the links in the 'forms' section on the right of this page to download the application form.
The application form is designed to help regulate the protection, health, safety and welfare of children.
Employers who employ children and do not apply for a work permit are breaking the law and could be prosecuted.
