Welcome to Lewisham Council’s environment homepage. Your Council is committed to making Lewisham a cleaner, safer and more attractive place to live and work. This includes reducing waste and pollution, responsible planning and sustainable development.

We have been declared a Beacon Council in recognition of our excellent sustainable energy work. We are one of the largest users of renewable energy in Western Europe and currently recycle and compost over 20% of the borough's household waste.

Lewisham Council and Lewisham fire service are urging residents and businesses to correctly dispose of unwanted propane gas cylinders commonly used for barbecues, patio heaters and camping equipment.

It is with regret that as part of a national strike by Unison and UNITE, some staff who are members of these unions are taking industrial action on 16-17 July. The majority of Council services are fully operational but some services are affected including libraries, domestic refuse collection and schools.
