Rubbish, recycling and food waste

  • All houses and flats in converted houses can get a 180-litre black wheelie bin for rubbish, a 240-litre green wheelie bin for recycling, a 23-litre silver bin for food waste and a five-litre silver kitchen caddy.
  • Make sure you only use your rubbish bin for waste that can’t be recycled. Find out what you can put in your recycling and food waste bins.
  • We will collect your recycling and food waste every week, and your rubbish every other week.
  • Place your bins at the edge of your property on, or by, the pavement before 6am on your collection day.

You can sign up for weekly garden waste collections. This costs £60 for collections from 1 April to 31 March the following year.

Home composting

You can buy a 220-litre home composting bin for £10.


New weekly food waste collection starting soon

The new service for thousands of residents will start from 2 October. They will also see their black rubbish bin collections move from weekly to fortnightly.

New food waste bins delivered to Lewisham residents

The first of 80,000 food waste bins were delivered to Lewisham residents this week ahead of big changes to waste collection services in two months' time.
