Lewisham Council - Flats Rubbish and Recycling

Rubbish and recycling for blocks of flats and estates

Find out what to do with your rubbish and recycling if you live in a block of flats or on an estate.

How to get rid of your rubbish and recycling

In your communal bin area you can find large blue rubbish bins and green recycling bins. Some bigger estates have more than one bin area.

Make sure you only use the rubbish bins for waste that can’t be recycled. Find out what you can put in your recycling bins.

Looking after your bin area

Please do not leave any rubbish on the floor or on top of the bins. This can attract vermin, cause problems with collections and stop other people from using the bins.

Privately managed blocks

If you live in a privately managed block of flats, you will need to ask your freeholder or managing agent to contact us to request communal rubbish and recycling bins.

Home composting

If you have a garden, you can order a compost bin for £10. Find out more about composting.

New weekly food waste collection starting soon

The new service for thousands of residents will start from 2 October. They will also see their black rubbish bin collections move from weekly to fortnightly.

New food waste bins delivered to Lewisham residents

The first of 80,000 food waste bins were delivered to Lewisham residents this week ahead of big changes to waste collection services in two months' time.
