How to use the eLibrary

With your 24-hour eLibrary offers you can access a wide range of books, audiobooks, magazines and newspapers. 

All you need is a library card and PIN, which you get when you join the library. If you do not know your PIN you can ask at your local library or email libraries@lewisham.gov.uk.

Read an eBook or listen to an eAudiobook 

 

eBooks are books you can read with your computer, phone, tablet or eReader. 

eAudiobooks are books that you can listen to on your computer, phone, tablet, or MP3 player.

The service is completely free. You can borrow four titles for up to three weeks, there are no loan charges and loans automatically expire at the end of the lending period so there are no late fees.

To read an eBook or listen to an eAudiobook all you need is your library card number and PIN.

It's easiest to use your smartphone, but you can also use many of the popular eReaders such as Kobo, Nook or Sony Readers. You can even use the Kindle Fire tablets, but you cannot use the Kindle eReader. Find out more about which devices you can use.

To read an eBook or listen to an eAudiobook:

  • Go to our eBook library and sign in by selecting Lewisham libraries and entering your library card number and PIN.
  • Find an eBook or eAudiobook and click 'borrow'. This will automatically add it to your bookshelf.
  • Go to your bookshelf, click the 'Read' or 'Listen' button and start reading and listening immediately.
  • You can download an eAudiobook with the Overdrive app to listen to later, and you can can read offline by selecting the Cloud icon and downloading your book in your internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome etc).

Read a magazine online

Our magazine service lets you read your favourite magazines, free of charge, on your smartphone, tablet or computer. As long as you have a library card, it's really easy to get started. 

Some of the magazines available include:

​HELLO! magazine ​25 Beautiful Homes
​New Scientist Empire​
​Grazia Men's Health​

The first time you use the magazines you will be asked to create an account. Click on the link above and select ‘Create an account’. Type in your library card number and follow the instructions. You then have access to hundreds of free magazines from sport to space, entertainment to homes.

To read a magazine, click on your chosen magazine and then on the 'Checkout' button. You can then choose to stream and read it straight away on your smartphone, PC or Mac, or read it offline on iPad, iPhone, Android or Kindle HD/HDX by downloading the app.

Read a newspaper online

Read over 3,000 newspaper titles, from over 100 different countries, free of on your desktop or browser. Just click the link above and enter the barcode number on your library card to get started.
