We are working to reduce the impact that air pollution has on public health and the environment in the borough.

Air quality in the UK is now generally very good, thanks to the regulation of industry and vehicles emissions.

Air quality alerts

People who suffer from asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, heart disease or angina may be affected by higher-than-normal levels of air pollution.

Airtext is a free air quality information service to help you to plan ahead to manage these conditions.

London Low Emission Zone

The borough is part of London's Low Emission Zone, which affects older, diesel-engined lorries, buses, coaches, large vans and minibuses.

To find out if your vehicle is affected, use Transport for London’s Low Emissions Zone website.

Campaign against engine idling (pdf)
Tfl have launched a campaign to encourage drivers to switch off their engines if their vehicle is likely to be stationary for more than 1 minute.
