English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) community courses for families

​See what ESOL community courses we offer for families.

Our non-accredited English-language community courses are offered in partnership with local community centres, schools and children centres across the borough. You can study everyday English from pre-entry to entry level 3.

Pre-course assessments

  • To enrol for a community English language course you will need to attend a pre-course assessment interview.
  • During the interview you can tell us more about your long-term goals. We will assess your skill level and place you on the appropriate course at a centre near you.

How to book the pre-course assessment

  • Choose from one of the courses below.
  • Call us on 020 8314 3300 and quote 'COMESOL'.
  • Make a note of your assessment date and venue.
  • Please note that the assessment can take up to two hours.
  • We will check if you are eligible for the free course.
  • Appointments are on a first come, first served basis.
  • You will only be seen if you have booked an appointment.

Please bring these documents to your pre-course assessment appointment:

  • Your residency document (UK/EU passport, ID card, non-EU passport with valid visa, recent letter from Home Office).
  • Your identification document (one of the above or: driving licence, National Insurance card, certificate of entitlement to funding, bank debit/credit card).
  • Your National Insurance number.
