Lewisham Council - Upcycled textiles competition

Upcycled textiles competition

We challenged Lewisham residents to create an original piece of decorative textile design work, garment, accessory or furnishing, using fabrics, trimmings and other textile materials that would otherwise be thrown away or donated to charity.

Judges' Choice award

The Judges' Choice award was given to Christine Khisa, who made a colourful and intricate bag. The bag was made of leftover materials and featured hand-made paper beads, knitting and crochet. Christine was presented with a £100 voucher towards craft materials and equipment, plus £75 towards a textile and floral design course of her choice

She has already used some of her voucher to attend an evening knitting class at the Brockley Rise centre to develop her skills in this craft.

People's Choice award

The People’s Choice winner was Alex Marshall, who made an impressively sized patchwork quilt from old and unused bed linen and her Dad’s ties. Alex will be awarded an e-reader and a £30 voucher towards a course.

A big thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s competition – we very much hope that you have been inspired to continue to enjoy and develop your creativity in 2017.
