What happens at a pre-course assessment

The pre-course assessment interview will help you pick the right course for you. At the interview you will:

  • complete a skills assessment to identify your skill level
  • have an informal discussion to tell us about your commitment, previous achievements and long-term goals
  • find out more about the where and when the courses run
  • talk with a course-subject specialist for more information and about any additional support you may require.

How to book your pre-course assessment

To book a pre-course assessment you will need to:

1. Visit one of our three main adult education centres.

2. Bring one of the following documents to prove you are eligible for the course:

  • residency document (UK/EU passport, ID card, non-EU passport with valid visa, recent letter from Home Office)

Please note that the assessment can take up to two hours.

Preparing for your pre-course assessment

Before your assessment, you should think about the following:

  • your future goals
  • the times and days you are available to attend to complete the full course
  • how you can find time for self- study and when and how to prepare for exams
  • any questions you have about the course and study time required to achieve your goals.

If you are taking an English or maths GCSE course, you will need to complete a pre-course assessment task.

Enrolment after the pre-course assessment

If you pass the assessment you can enrol on your chosen course.

  1. Take your completed referral form with the course code to reception.
  2. If you are applying for concessionary fees please bring your proof of entitlement documents. We will confirm your eligibility.
