Adult education pre-course assessments

For some courses you need to come to an assessment before you can enrol. This will help you pick the right course for your skill level.

What happens at the assessment

The pre-course assessment can last up to two hours. At the interview, you will:

  • do a skills assessment
  • tell us about your past achievements and long-term goals
  • find out more about the course
  • find out where and when the courses run
  • tell us if you need extra support.

How to book your assessment

You must book your pre-course assessment in person:

1. Visit one of our three adult education centres.

2. You need to bring proof of identity. We accept:

  • passport
  • driving licence
  • national ID card
  • birth or adoption certificate
  • National Insurance card
  • credit or debit card
  • recent utility bill or bank statement

3. Choose the date and time of your pre-course assessment.

4. We will give you an appointment confirmation setting out the date, time and location of your assessment.

After your assessment

  • We will tell you your skills level at the end of the assessment.
  • We will give you a referral form that confirms the course you can enrol on.
  • You can enrol on your course straight away or at a later date.

How to enrol

  • Visit one of our adult education centres.
  • Give your referral form to reception.
  • If you are applying for concessionary fees or discount, you need to bring evidence showing that you are eligible.
