Redeveloping the homestead in Beckenham Place Park

Redeveloping the homestead in Beckenham Place Park

Find out about how we are redeveloping the homestead in Beckenham Place Park.

The homestead will be the arrival and visitor space for the park. The homestead is made up of an old stableblock (which was built at the same time as the Mansion House in the late 18th century), a terrace of three cottages and the stable yard.

  • This will be fully restored to house a large café with a terrace overlooking the gardens and the park beyond.
  • The park’s environmental education centre will be located here. Park visitors can get lots of information about the park, its history and its habitats. It will also be a base for activities and school groups.
  • Public toilets will be located here.

The cottages will be let out to other users, appropriate to the park setting.

Stable yard

The stable yard will be transformed into an attractive courtyard with planting and picnic benches for park users to enjoy. The area will also be used for markets and other events.

The new, larger car park will be opposite the homestead, on the other side of the drive.

The new stable yard will open in summer 2019.
