Festival of Creative Ageing

Age Against the Machine, Festival of Creative Ageing is a ground-breaking, radical arts festival happening in autumn 2019 showcasing and supporting the creative talents of older people.

What to expect from the Festival of Creative Ageing

Age Against the MachineFrom 13 September to 6 October 2019, our borough will become a hive of creative activity as we celebrate the positive power of the arts in our lives as we age. The festival is being co-produced by the Albany, Entelechy Arts and us, working with a range of other key partners.

With nearly 70 different events ranging from live music, theatre, dance, films and exhibitions, to discussions, pop-up choirs and large scale outdoor performances, the festival has at its heart a mission to open up the subject of ageing in our society.

Almost the entire programme will be ticketed but free to attend
. There will be series of closed events in care homes across the borough to bring the festival to those who would not otherwise have access.

Funding for the festival from the Mayor of London

Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, awarded the borough of Lewisham a £216,000 cultural impact award to host this ground-breaking festival. This was part of the London Borough of Culture awards – a major new initiative launched by the Mayor of London in June 2017 and inspired by the UK City and European Capital of Culture programmes. The award brings Londoners together, putting culture at the heart of local communities.
