Business waste and recycling

We provide a commercial waste service to over 3,000 businesses, schools and colleges in the borough – seven days per week, 6am–10pm.

Your responsibilities

Under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, every business has a legal duty of care to ensure that the waste they produce, however small or large the amount, is disposed of properly by a licensed waste carrier.

As a business you are also legally required to keep copies of your waste transfer notes covering for the previous two years. Our Clean Streets (Enforcement) Team can request waste transfer notes for up to the past two years. Failure to comply with a notice requiring production of waste transfer notes may result in a fixed penalty notice of £300 being issued or if the matter is referred to the magistrates court for prosecution this could result in a criminal conviction and a fine of up to £5000.
