Deptford High Street and St Paul’s conservation area

Deptford High Street and St Paul’s conservation areas were designated in 1976 and 1975 respectively.

The area grew following Henry VIII’s Royal Naval Dockyard and contains many 18th century buildings including:

  • St Paul's church
  • the Grade II* listed houses on Albury Street
  • several small vernacular buildings dotted between later ones along Deptford High Street.

The area has continued to evolve and today is known for its street market and varied independent food shops.

We are currently undertaking a review of the two conservation areas and drafting a character appraisal which will set out their special architectural and historic interest that we have a duty to preserve or enhance.
