Apply for housing benefit

Our staff will deal with housing benefit claims over the phone or face-to-face. We no longer ask applicants to fill in a paper or online application form.

Anybody who is liable to pay rent can claim, as long as they are:

  • over 16 years of age
  • responsible for paying rent for where they live
  • receiving Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance (income-based), Pension Credit or living on a low income
  • and have savings of less than £16,000.

When you come to the appointment, please bring proof of identity, plus proof of your rent, income and savings. Documents we need to see.

Seeking views on social housing policy in Lewisham

Lewisham Council is reviewing its housing allocations scheme and developing its Strategic Policy on Tenancies and is asking for views on the proposed changes.

New move to increase recycling

Until the end of February, recycling advisors will visit 30,000 homes on Lewisham’s housing estates and blocks of flats, to help and encourage residents to recycle more.
