Planning policy aims to ensure that development and changes in land use occur in suitable locations, are sustainable and provide protection from inappropriate development in the long term public interest.
Section 38(6) of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 requires planning decisions to be made in accordance with the development plan unless material considerations indicate otherwise.
The development plan in the borough is the London Plan, the Lewisham Core Strategy, the Site Allocations Local Plan, the Lewisham Town Centre Local Plan and the Development Management Local Plan.
The Lewisham Unitary Development Plan (UDP) 2004 has now been superseded.
