Walking for health

Walking is a great way to keep active. Physical activity helps us feels happier and being in nature helps reduce stress.

These are our regular weekly walks. You can just turn up at the start except where we recommend you contact the walk leader listed before your first walk. For other nearby walks see walkingforhealth and Walk4Life.

​Mondays 10.30am ​Chinbrook Meadows ​Meet at WG Grace Centre, Lion’s Close, SE9 4HG. ​Walk to and around Chinbrook Meadows for 30–45 mins on paths. Tea at café in park at end if you wish (with ChART) From 24 April.
​Mondays 6.30pm Hilly Fields
evening walk
​Meet by benches outside Bowling Club on Tyrwhitt Road ​Choice of routes – one hilly, one flat, smooth even paths. Walk lasts 30–45 minutes. (April – Oct only) Restarts 24 April.
​Tuesdays 9.45am Beckenham Place Park ​Meet at Mansion House car park ​Choice of three circular walks from 30 minutes to 1 hour. The short walk will be on level, smooth paths. Others will include slopes and rough ground going through woodland.
​Tuesdays 11am Sydenham Wells Park ​Meet by the benches near the pond ​Walk lasts for up to 45 minutes. There are a choice of routes – level, smooth paths or choose to go up the hill through wooded area.
Tuesdays 2pm Ladywell Fields ​Meet in the Riverside reception area in Lewisham Hospital Walk lasts 20–45 minutes. This is a level walking route with good paths. You can do half a lap (20 minutes), a full lap or two!
Wednesdays 10am Bellingham (with Well London volunteers) ​Meet outside St Dunstan’s Church, Bellingham Green

Walk lasts 30–45 minutes. Long slope at the start and some gentle slopes in the park, even ground and paths.

Wednesdays 10am From New Cross: walks in the south-east London area ​Meet at Barnes Wallis Centre, Wild Goose Drive SE14 5LL (near New Cross Fire station) Walk lasts 60 minutes in different parks each week, including Russia Docks, Peckham Rye, Dulwich, Southwark and Burgess Parks (we go by public transport so bring your travel pass).

Grove Park and beyond



​Meet at Ringway Centre on Baring Road SE12 0DS Varied routes, may be up to 90 minutes, through woodland and parks, some with rough ground or slopes.

​Thursdays 9am ​Deptford Park ​Meet at 9am at the playground in Deptford Park. ​Walk for 30–45 minutes within the park. Mostly smooth, level paths with different  route options so you can walk as slow or as fast as you wish. The park also has outdoor gym facilities to use after the walk.
​South-east London explorers ​Meet by the tables and chairs near the clock tower, Lewisham High Street. ​Use public transport to travel to different local routes each week (own fares or travel passes needed). Walk for 45 – 60 minutes then tea in a café. Varied routes and may include slopes, steps and rough ground. 
Thursdays 11am Horniman Gardens ​Meet by the benches inside the main gates This is a hilly park so some slopes but you can choose more level route, some weeks we go into the nature trail with rough ground/steps. Walk for up to 45 minutes. 
Thursdays 11am Ladywell Fields ​Meet in the Riverside reception area in Lewisham Hospital Walk lasts 20–45 minutes. This is a level walking route with good paths. You can do half a lap (20 minutes), a full lap or two!
​Lewisham paths and parks ​Meet at Glassmill Leisure Centre, Lewisham. ​MIND Peer Support Volunteer led walks. Walk for 60 minutes at various locations. Café at the end where possible. Contact Smita on 07850 639 811 to register. Booking essential.  
​Mountsfield Park ​Meet by the bandstand near George Lane entrance. ​Walk for 60 mins on a choice of routes -one more level at top of park, the other using the hills. Starts 6 May.
​Saturdays 2pm ​Downham parks and woodlands ​Meet in the cafe at Downham Health & Leisure Centre. ​Walk for up to an hour on a variety of routes in the local area. The routes may include long slopes, rough ground under foot, and steps.
