The Big Lunch

What is a Big Lunch?

A Big Lunch can be anything from simply getting together with your immediate neighbours – in a garden, on the street – through to organising a bigger street party, with food, bunting and music, that quite literally stops the traffic.

Close your road for a Big Lunch or street party

If you are organising a Big Lunch, or a street party at any time of year, you'll need to arrange for your street to be closed. Please contact the Traffic Coordinator.

Lewisham residents hosted 57 Big Lunches in 2010, the highest number of Big Lunches in London that year, and 66 in 2011.

What people said about the Big Lunch…

It is amazing that for just a little effort you can encourage such a sense of community spirit. People really embraced the day and got stuck in. Well over half our street came out, young and old, all ethnicities and religions - a real mix. People were really mixing and seemed to have a great time.

It was as if everyone had been waiting for an event like this to be organised.
