Safer Stations survey

In December 2005 and January 2006, the Council hosted an online survey on this website named Safer Stations.

In the survey, we asked you to tell us how safe you felt when using train stations in Lewisham. We also asked about crimes and crime-related incidents that you'd witnessed.

Survey results

802 of you responded to this survey. This gives us a very useful insight into how people using Lewisham stations feel about their own safety and into their experience of crime.

We've presented the detailed results of the survey in the document below.

The headline findings were:

  • 53% of respondents feel unsafe or uneasy at local train stations.
  • 64% of respondents report no change to safety at their local station in the last year. 17% said their station had got less secure. 8% say that it is safer.
  • 63% of respondents have witnessed anti-social behaviour, 41% acts of vandalism and 23% of respondents have witnessed, or been a victim of, crime at a station.
  • 84% of respondents want more visible staffing at stations and 67% wanted better lighting at stations.
  • Feelings of insecurity are worst in the evening. 85% saying they were most concerned after 7.30pm.
