Motorcycle and bicycle bays

Where can I park a motorcycle in Lewisham?

At present there are a limited number of designated motorcycle bays provided on the public highway. The reason for this is because these bays cannot be utilised by any other vehicle and we feel this may not be the best use of kerbside space that is in high demand.

However, motorcycles can park free of charge on any of our pay and display or dual purpose bays, provided the motorcycle is parked perpendicular to the kerb.

A resident who lives within a controlled parking zone may park a motorcycle free of charge, on a resident bay provided the motorcycle is parked perpendicular to the kerb. This reduces the amount of kerbside space being used and does not prevent or hinder other residents parking their vehicles.

If you wish to park your motorcycle side on from the kerb, then a resident permit will be required.

Where can I park a bicycle in Lewisham?

Parking facilities are generally provided for cyclists at all main destinations including local shopping parades to improve security and to overcome problems such as bikes being left strewn over the footway or padlocked to pedestrian guard rails.

There is no charge for use of basic cycle parking facilities. The Council is investigating the provision of more elaborate cycle parking/storage facilities, including cycle parking with small lockers. In view of the cost of providing such facilities a small charge may be levied for their use.
