Council car parks: FAQs

You can find answers to frequently asked questions about the Council's car parks on this page.

Who is responsible for parking enforcement in council car parks?

Enforcement of parking regulations in Lewisham-owned car parks is carried out by NCP.

If you have a query about a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) or about specific parking restrictions please contact our Parking Shop.

Will their be any improvements to council car parks in the near future?

The multi-storey car park in Holbeach Road now meets ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) standards.

The standards required for this accreditation are high and our refurbishment work has involved major improvements to lighting, surveillance and security in the building.

Bringing a car park up to ACPO standards requires a considerable investment.

Over the next few years we hope to bring all of our car parks up to ACPO standard.

Who manages car parks in Lewisham?

The Council manages 19 car parks throughout Lewisham, as well as a large number of on street 'pay and display' spaces.

I am a disabled person, where can I park?

Any person displaying a valid disabled persons blue/orange badge can park in any car park or in any 'pay and display' space on the street free of charge for unlimited time periods.

Blue badges are not valid for specific use parking bays such as ‘resident only’ parking bays.

In a number of car parks, larger bays are set aside for disabled persons ease of access. For more information on where these are see the list of car parks above.

Are disabled parking bays available in Council car parks?

All council car parks, which have a made-up surface and with 20 or more spaces have a minimum provision of 5% disabled bays. These bays are marked out for exclusive use of blue badge holders with a minimum width of 3.2 metres compared to 2.8 metres for other bays. No charge is made for this parking.

We provide a secure HGV park at Catford Lorry Park on Canadian Avenue in Catford. There are 40 spaces available.  See the council car parks page for details of the charges at this car park.

Where can I park a motorhome or high-sided vehicle?

The majority of car parks in Lewisham have a height barrier at the entrance. Higher-sided vehicles may park on the street in a pay and display bay providing they do not exceed the size of the bay.

How much will it cost me to park?

Can I load and unload in a pay and display parking area without paying?

Anybody wishing to load or unload in a pay and display area may do so for up to 20 minutes without purchasing a parking ticket You must, however, be in the process of loading or unloading at all times, and once completed you must either move your vehicle or purchase a ticket.

Can I undertake building or maintenance works from a pay and display space?

If you are a contractor wishing to undertake works and a vehicle is required to be parked in a pay and display space, you may apply for the suspension of a parking bay. The bay may then be reserved for your use, otherwise you will be required to adhere to any relevant regulations and charges. There will be a charge levied per space per day.
