Youth offending

Lewisham Youth Offending Team (YOT) works with the community and local agencies such as the Police and schools, to help keep young people aged 10-17 out of trouble. If a young person does commit an offence, we work with them, their families and anyone else affected by the crime to hold the young person to account and try to prevent further offending. Since the YOT was formed in 1998 the number of young people convicted of offences has gone down and we have reduced re-offending.

Here you can read about the wide range of responses to youth offending, and find out what might be expected of you if a young person you know receives a Final Warning or a sentence. You can also find out about youth offender panels, where community members help to draw up contracts enabling young people sentenced to Referral Orders to make amends.
