A jam-packed programme of exciting activities and events for young people in Lewisham has been launched for the summer.
The Summer’s Alive 2008 programme was launched by Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, and Justin Cole, Young Mayor of Lewisham, at the Bellingham Gateway Youth and Activity Centre on 9 July.
Sir Steve said: “We’ve worked really hard with our partners to ensure that there is something for everyone and this year’s programme is the biggest and best yet.
“We are fortunate to have some of the best sport and leisure activities in London and I encourage all our younger residents to take full advantage of them.”
Justin Cole, Young Mayor of Lewisham, added: “This year’s programme is brilliant. There are so many exciting things for us to do. I’ve already looked through the brochure and found some things I’m going to do. I hope others do the same; they won’t be disappointed.”
“Now all I’ve got to do is try to work out how I’m going to fit everything in!”
Activities include Taiko drumming, circus skills, filming-making, music skills, day trips, fashion design, science workshops, rambling, sports and adventure play. Most are free or have a nominal charge.
The popular Summer Uni programme – now in its 7th year – will also be providing a variety of courses for 8-19 year-olds. They range from film-making, acting workshops, cookery lessons to leadership skills, writing and skateboard-making.
Each participant who completes a course will receive a Lewisham Summer Uni certificate presented on the last day of the course at a showcase or open event.
