Primary school success brings league table results

Lewisham’s primary schools are some of the best in country this week’s Key Stage 2 results show.

John Stainer primary in Brockley is the third most improved school in the country according to figures published by the Department for Education and Skills.

And Tidemill in Deptford achieved the 11th highest national Value Added score in the country - the measure of how much pupils have improved during their time at school.

Overall the Lewisham is ranked 7th nationally for its Value Added score of 100.36.

Councillor Robert Massey, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: 'We are climbing the league tables both in London and nationally because our support for primary schools is paying off with great results.

'These results show at our pupils are showing genuine improvements during their time at our schools.

'Education in Lewisham continues to go from strength to strength and I congratulate all the teachers, staff, parents and pupils who have helped as achieve yet more excellent results.'

All Saints Primary in Blackheath was one of just 200 schools across the county to get 100% pass marks for English, Maths and Science at Level 4.

It was also joined by Brindishe school, SE12, in the list of top 200 schools for results in the higher Level 5 exams.

Eight of Lewisham’s primary schools are in the top 5% nationally for Value Added results:

  • All Saints Primary - 102.2
  • Deptford Park Primary - 101.8
  • John Ball Primary - 102.0
  • Myatt Garden Primary - 102.1
  • Sir Francis Drake Primary - 101.8
  • St. Augustine's RC Primary - 103.1
  • St. Stephen's CE Primary - 102.5
  • Tidemill Junior School - 104.1

Lewisham’s primary schools are showing continued improvement after jumping to fifth place in the Inner London league tables.

The borough’s excellent 100.36 Value Added score has also beaten the national and London averages.

Pupils take their Key Stage 2 exams in English, maths and science in Year 6 at the end of their time at primary school.
