A new way of running the borough's council housing is set to go 'live' in January.
Lewisham Homes, the borough's new Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO), will give more influence to residents and revolutionise the way homes are managed.
The board of Lewisham Homes will include seven residents - five tenants and two leaseholders - who will get their say on decisions effecting local housing.
Supporting the residents on the board will be five independents, experts selected by residents on the steering group to assist in decision making.
The aim of the Lewisham Homes is to improve housing services for residents and to meet government’s Decent Homes standard.
Julia Cotton, Local Resident and joint headteacher of a school in Woolwich, as chair of Lewisham Homes' shadow board is a driving force behind the new organisation.
Ms Cotton said: "Lewisham Homes will streamline decision making processes, cutting through layers of bureaucracy to deliver quality services for residents.
"Lewisham Homes will bring together a number of services that are provided to residents, making it easier to speak to the right person when you call and get repairs finished as fast as possible.
"It's fair to say that both the board and staff are looking forward to a new way of working.
"ALMOs have only recently come on the scene and already 11 of them have been rated excellent - something no traditionally set up authority has been able to achieve."
Lewisham Homes will also oversee widespread regeneration work and hopes to gain over £140million in funding for new bathrooms, kitchens and double glazing for properties under its management.
Catch the Lewisham Homes information team on Saturday, from 10am, at the Lewisham Homes' Roadshow at the Sainsbury's Savacentre, Lower Sydenham.
