Sir Francis Drake Primary school celebrates Ofsted success

Pupils, staff and parents at Sir Francis Drake Primary School in Deptford are celebrating after the school achieved an “outstanding” rating from Ofsted.

The school received the highest marks possible in all 15 categories following an inspection in June.

Councillor Robert Massey, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “This is a fantastic achievement and congratulations are due to the pupils and staff at the school.

“Schools like Sir Francis Drake are a credit to the hard work of pupils, parents and teachers in the borough of Lewisham and their willingness to embrace innovation.

“These results are a step forward in our relentless drive to improve educational standards for all our children."

Headteacher Craig Voller said: “I’m very proud of all the teachers and children who have worked so hard to achieve such a high standard.”

Outstanding features of the school included:

  • the successful leadership of the headteacher and senior staff
  • the highly skilled planning and delivery of lessons
  • the headteacher and staff think very carefully about what is best for the pupils and take their views on board
  • the outstanding behaviour and attitudes of the pupils.
