Creekside Education Centre – autumn events

Creekside is a different kind of education centre. Based at Deptford Creek, the centre offers an exciting range of activities for all ages.

A tidal tributary of the Thames, Deptford Creek is one of London's hidden green gems. The creek is a haven for hundreds of fresh and saltwater plants and animals.

One of its main attractions is the centre’s unique creek access. Almost a mile of stony river bottom appears as the tide falls each day, giving an unmatched opportunity for adventure and education not found anywhere else in London.

Creekside is a fully staffed environmental centre with purpose built facilities. The centre encourages local people and those from further afield to be involved in the creek. The centre’s goal is to provide a programme of education and leisure from 4 to 104 year olds, and aims to enable people of all ages and abilities, to enjoy the physical and natural environment, and help in maintaining and protecting the local wildlife.

Here are some of the fascinating events going on there this Autumn:

  • Thursday 23 and Friday 24 August - a 2-day adventure for children aged 10 to 13, exploring the Creek, looking for crabs, treasure and lots more
  • Sundays throughout September and October – Summer Low Tide Walks – good, clean, dirty fun! For adults and children over 10 accompanied by an adult. Explore the Creek, learn about the wildlife and the Creek’s history
  • Saturdays and Sundays throughout September and October – free Wildlife Walks to Creekside. A 2-hour walk, collecting species of wildflowers, contributing to the plant collection at the Natural History Museum.

The centre is fully accessible and welcomes visits from all sectors of the community. The centre can provide outdoor clothing including waders for going into the creek.
