What a difference a pledge makes!

Lewisham councillors from all parties and MPs are making Love Lewisham personal pledges to help the environment.

Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, said: "The idea behind the campaign is to encourage residents to be more environmentally friendly and commit to making a difference in Lewisham. Every little thing we do counts.

"For example, if we leave the tap running for two minutes when we clean our teeth we will waste about 30 litres of water. If everyone in Lewisham stopped doing this then we'd save 14 million litres a year."

Local people can choose from a top 10 list of ideas or make up their own pledge/s.

All pledges will go on a pledge tree, which will tour the borough. As the tree grows, so does the difference everyone is making to the environment!

To reward people for taking part there will be a monthly prizes of £100-worth of environmentally friendly goodies.

Local people will be able to choose whether to put the cash towards a bike, a low-energy washing machine, a wind turbine or choose from a selection of smaller goodies like a desk-top wormery.

Love Lewisham: Pledge and Win cards will be given out at Council events throughout the year. A FREEPOST Pledge and Win card will also appear in the local media soon.

Residents can also send in their pledges online by following the link on the right.
