Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, has unveiled two sculptures in Rushey Green, one of which was made by the son of the famous composer Serge Prokofiev.

Steve said: 'These sculptures are the result of a real collective local effort, with business working alongside the Creative Lewisham Agency and people who care about the area. They are sure to really brighten up Catford.'

The sculpture placed outside La Ciabatta, next to Ringstead Road was donated to the London Borough of Lewisham by Frances Prokofiev, local resident and widow of Oleg Prokofiev.

Oleg, son of Serge Prokofiev the famous composer, was a hugely talented artist who trained at the world renowned Moscow School of Art in the 1940s.

The second sculpture, The Water Line created by Oliver Barratt, is sited outside Eros House on the corner of Rushey Green and Brownhill Road.

The piece, inspired by a time when a river ran through Rushey Green, was jointly commissioned by Desiman Ltd, who own Eros House, and the Creative Lewisham Agency.

Oliver Barratt is most notable for creating the memorial at Mount Everest's base camp, which pays tribute to those lost on the mountain.
