The matter of Mini Motos

Lewisham Safer Neighbourhood Teams are working in partnership with Lewisham Council's Anti Social Behaviour Team to pro-actively tackle the use of mini-motos in Lewisham.

So far Lewisham Safer Neighbourhood Teams have confiscated fifteen Mini Motos in the last three months and will continue to do so where they are being used illegally.

Mini Motos can only be ridden on private property, and then only with the permission of the owner. It is unlawful to ride a Mini Moto on roads, paths and any land such as parks, woods, commons and playgrounds that are open to the public.

If you are a Council or Housing Association tenant you are putting your tenancy at risk if you store either a Mini Moto or its fuel in your home.

Current legislation to tackle the problem of nuisance caused by Mini Motos includes Section 59 of The Police Reform Act and gives Police Officers the power to seize Mini Motos.

After an initial warning, riders who continue to ride the Mini Moto will have them seized by the Police and may be crushed. They may also be subject to prosecution resulting in a fine of up to £1,000.

So remember:

  • riding a Mini Moto whether on the road, pavement or park is an offence and will attract a heavy fine
  • causing injury through the use of a Mini Motor could result in a prison term
  • allowing a Mini Moto into your home or anywhere on your property could result in your tenancy or leasehold agreement being terminated. You could lose your home.
