Tenants vow to unite against anti-social behaviour

A fun day organised by Lewisham Council, urging tenants to tackle anti-social behaviour together, has been hailed as a great success by Lewisham councillors and the wider community.

Cllr Chris Best, who was amongst the 100-plus visitors to Hazel Park for the event , called it "hugely imaginative" and congratulated those who had helped organise the day.

The local press were also attracted to the pioneering community project, with the News Shopper noting its importance as part of the Mayor's wider plans for addressing anti-social behaviour.

Hazel Grove and its neighbouring communities of Allwood Close, Addington Grove and Laurel Grove were all represented among the guests.

The Council's Residents Involvement Team spoke to residents throughout the evening, many of whom vowed to form or join tenants’ and residents’ associations.

Cllr Crada Onuegbu, Lewisham's Champion for Community Safety, said: "With residents from across the area united together and working with the council we can tackle anti-social behaviour."

Lewisham Council organised the event with its partners the Lewisham Police, Sydenham Safer Neighbourhood team, XLP pink community double-decker bus and the Millwall Football Project.

As well as the day's important message to unite against anti-social behaviour, people had a great time enjoying the entertainment, which included a bouncy castle, face painting and Indian head massage.
