Stormbreaker summer reading mission

The reading mission
Your mission should you choose to accept it...

Alex Rider, from the new movie Stormbreaker, is urging young people from across Lewisham to take part in this summer's top-secret reading challenge.

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge, The Reading Mission, is part of a nationwide library promotion that inspires four to twelve-year olds to read six or more books of their choice in the summer holidays.

Chris Best, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: 'We hope as many local children as possible will accept this exciting mission and enjoy a summer of reading. Lewisham’s libraries will help children explore the wonderful world of books, and parents will find it’s the perfect way to keep their youngsters happy in the long summer break!'

The young people who successfully complete the mission will become the Mayor of Lewisham's very own Special Reading Agents.

Lewisham libraries are going all out to get young people hooked on books, with bookmarks and secret message pens helping to spread the word about the reading mission.

The Mayor's Special Reading Agents will receive 'Mission Accomplished' medals and certificates.

Anthony Horowitz, the author of the books that inspired the Stormbreaker film, also features on a website dedicated to the Reading Mission - www.readingmission.org.uk.
