Young athletes from the borough have made a huge impact on the 29th London Youth Games winning two of the event’s top overall awards.
Lewisham was honoured with the title of Best Inner London Borough and successfully defended the Disability Sports title, winning the award for "No. 1 in London" the second year running.
Cllr Chris Best, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: "All of the athletes and coaches involved should be congratulated for what is an immense achievement. To hold both titles shows a remarkable depth of talent and dedication in our young athletes and coaching staff."
Parkwood Leisure were key to the borough's success at the games, sponsoring Lewisham's team kit and offering free training facilities for those competing.
Lewisham's disabilities team have become a dominant force at the games, beating their nearest rivals Hammersith and Fulham by a margin of 53 points.
Lewisham came sixth overall, equalling last year's result, competing in events ranging from diving and swimming to fencing and canoeing.
This year's London Youth Games, held at Crystal Palace, saw over 20,000 competitors from across London's 32 boroughs and the City of London competing in over 30 different sports.
Europe’s largest youth sports event had been contested over 5 weeks with the finals being held over the weekend of July 8 -9.
