Lewisham scoops silver

Lewisham Council gave another glittering performance after scooping a silver award at this year’s London in Bloom ceremony, 2006.

The Friends and Users of Staplehurst Road Shops (FUSS) were also awarded a certificate of Outstanding Achievement for the second time in a row for their work in transforming Staplehurst Road.

Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, congratulated all those who helped the council win saying: “Well done to everyone who has worked hard all year round and to all the residents who have pulled together to keep our green spaces looking fresh and beautiful.”

“A special thanks to the Friends of Staplehurst Road Shops, who have once again shown an outstanding effort in making Lewisham a more attractive and greener place for everyone to enjoy.”

Lewisham resident, Terence Minter of Catford, won third prize in the best front garden in London category.

Top horticultural judges visited Lewisham in July to assess the quality of its parks, the council’s approach to the environment and the extent to which Lewisham engaged the community in the campaign.

Notes to the Editors
