The competition winners with the Mayor and Rebecca Harding
1st place Eleanor, 2nd place Kinu and 3rd place Aaliyah with Steve Bullock and Rebecca Harding

A group of young artists visited one of the borough’s Leisure centres to meet Lewisham’s Mayor and see who would reign supreme in a pool themed paint-off.

The excitement at the Bridge Leisure Centre was palpable and visibly affecting the fidgeting young artists, as Steve Bullock, the Mayor of Lewisham, and Matthew Roberts, Parkwood Leisure’s Regional Director, paced up and down examining rows of pictures.

Steve Bullock, after a brief but animated discussion with his fellow judge, held aloft the winning pieces, declaring: “It’s been tough to find a winner today but we feel these have really captured the essence of swimming: they’re lively, colourful and great fun.”

After the excitable clapping of pool-wrinkled hands had died down, the winners posed for photos with the Mayor and local athletics hero Rebecca Harding before the prizes were announced.

The victorious trio were then delighted to find out that they had won the opportunity* to take part in the Bridge’s Camp Adventure summer activity days.

Camp Adventure at the Bridge Leisure Centre offers the chance to get involved in a host of fun activities that will keep kids amused throughout the holidays.

The young people who were competing in the art competition had also helped the Mayor announce that swimming is free this summer for the borough’s under 16s.

*First prize was a week free at Camp Adventure, second prize, a day at Camp Adventure and for third place a half day.
