Adventure playground re-opens for the summer

The adventure playground in New King Street, Deptford, has opened its gates in time for the summer holidays.

The newly rebuilt playground now features improved walkways, swings and tonnes of activities for children of all ages.

Thanks to a £50,000 refurbishment fund from the Mayor the site also has brand new toilets with full disabled access.

Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, said: 'Children love adventure playgrounds which is why I’m so pleased Deptford’s has re-opened and is better than ever.

'It is just one of the many great places in Lewisham to take kids this summer.'

There has been an adventure playground on the site for more than 35 years but it was closed a year ago in order to bring it in line with health and safety standards. During the work the youth centre building remained open.

Phase 1 of the work is now complete and the site re-opened on 24 July. The remaining work will be started later this year.

It is also the first adventure playground in Lewisham to gain Ofsted approval for the under 8s – allowing more children than ever to use it.

The playground, now run by Lewisham Council’s Youth Service, is open from 11am to 7pm Tuesday to Saturday. Call 020 8391 1310 for more information. Groups are asked to book in advance.

The Deptford Adventure Playground is part of the Summer's Alive programme of activities for kids.
