Mayor and Cabinet digest: 4 March 2009

Here are some of the key decisions taken by Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, at the meeting of the Mayor and Cabinet on 4 March 2009.

London Pledge for Looked After Children


The Mayor agreed that Lewisham would adopt the London Pledge for Looked After Children. He also agreed recommendations presented to the Corporate Parenting Panel as follows:
  • As a minimum standard, £100pa would be saved for children who have been looked after for more than twelve months.
  • To provide care leavers with an out of hours contact and improve the transition of care leavers to adulthood.
  • That looked-after children and young care leavers should look into providing a DVD to improve the recruitment of foster carers.
  • To establish an award of Foster Carer of the Year at Lewisham Pride Awards.
  • To provide ten care leavers with the opportunity to learn to drive.

Prioritisation of Transport Schemes

The Mayor agreed to the allocation of the revenue traffic management budget of £200,000 for the financial year 2009/10 as listed below:

  • £100k for a 20mph zone in Forest Hill.
  • £20k for new waiting and loading restrictions.
  • £5k for footway parking.
  • £10K for the maintenance, data collection and re-siting of Speed Indicator Devices.
  • £10k for traffic flow and speed surveys.
    £30k as a contribution towards the Blackheath Town Centre 20mph zone review.
  • £5k for small scale traffic schemes.
  • The balance of £20K for the completion of 2008/9 traffic projects.

Forest Hill, Sydenham and Perry Vale(Chrysalis) Decent Homes

The Mayor approved the appointment of London and Quadrant Housing Trust as the preferred partner for the Forest Hill, Perry Vale and Sydenham stock transfer area and the continuation of work to develop an offer document.

Hither Green Rail Station

The Mayor asked the Executive Director for Regeneration to approach Southeastern Trains to see whether the currently bricked-up ramps at Hither Green Rail Station could be brought back into use in order to re-institute step-free access to several of the platforms and to report back to him.
