Mayor and Cabinet (Contracts) digest: 25 February 2009

Here are some of the key decisions taken by Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, at the meeting of the Mayor and Cabinet (Contracts) on 25 February 2009.

Arts Service Grants Aid

The Mayor agreed the following revenue grants for the financial year 2009 - 2010:

Sydenham Music Project £16,000
Deptford X £20,000
Lewisham Education Arts Network £32,700
The Deptford Fund (The Albany) (in addition to its core funding from the Community Sector Unit)
£55,000
Trinity Laban (including Blackheath Halls) £140,000
Montage Theatre Arts £5,000
Creative Process (formerly Creative Lewisham Agency) £50,000

Community Sector Main Programme Funding

The Mayor agreed to commit a total of £5,108,739 to fund around 100 voluntary organisations for the financial year 2009/10 including:

  • Expenditure of £8,000 towards implementing the AIMS computer package for Advice and Information Services.
  • A one-off grant of £23,000 for 2008-09 be awarded to Deptford Churches Care, towards the costs of key staff.
  • A one-off grant of £2,000 for 2008-09 to the 2nd Deptford Scouts towards costs of rent.
  • An increase of grant to Age Exchange to £5,000.
  • An increase of grant to Deptford Action Group for the Elderly to £40,000 with the increase as a contribution towards the driver’s salary.
  • A grant of £28,000 to Voluntary Action Lewisham, as match funding for the Health and Social Care officer post A grant of £47,000 to Bellingham Community Project, subject to specific outcomes being agreed between the Council and organisations.
  • A grant of £37,500 to Pepys Community Project for five months' funding.
  • Additional funding to Lewisham Ethnic Minority Partnership of £10,000 towards an outreach worker, subject to a revised budget and outcomes.
  • A grant of £15,950 to North Downham Community Project.
  • Additional funding to Volunteer Centre Lewisham of £25,000 towards a project assisting people with the economic downturn.
  • £22,000 be ring fenced for work with the Turkish community.
  • £24,966 previously awarded to 2000 Community Action be reserved to enable a smooth transition of management of this facility to take place once the work being undertaken on the Pepys estate has been completed.
