It's official - Lewisham loves frankfurters

The search for Lewisham’s favourite independent business for 2009, as voted for by the public, is over. The Sausage Man of Lewisham Town Centre was announced the clear winner of Lewisham’s ‘Who Do You Love?’ competition on 6 March.

David Rundel, also know as The Sausage Man, was personally congratulated by Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, when the Mayor went to visit him at his stall at the Clock Tower in Lewisham.

On hearing the announcement David said: "Winning this award is fantastic. Thank you to everyone who voted for me, especially my regular customers, who I see all the time. It means a lot to have people's support. Meeting the Mayor was great too and I really hope people will vote for me again next year".

Sir Steve said: “The ‘Who Do You Love?’ competition keeps going from strength-to-strength. It’s a great way for residents to support their local businesses as it helps to raise awareness of the diverse range of enterprises on our doorstep.

“Mr Rundel, The Sausage Man, seems like a really great character - very cheerful and enterprising. I’ve tried one of his hot dogs and it was delicious.

"Well done Mr Rundel.”

Runner up to The Sausage Man was Sapporo, a Japanese restaurant in Catford, which was very closely followed in third place by the Barbados Unisex Hair Salon in Honor Oak, winner of ‘Who Do You Love?’ in 2008.

Broca Café and The Shop on the Hill, both in Brockley, took fourth and fifth place respectively.

This is the fifth year of the ‘Who Do You Love?’ competition.
