Bird flu

Residents are assured that the outbreak of bird flu in the UK presents a negligible threat to human health.

The Council works with central health authorities, to ensure that residents are prepared in the event of an outbreak of bird flu by being kept up-to-date with the facts.

Avian influenza H5N1 remains a disease of birds and the risk of catching bird flu is extremely low. However, everyone is advised that if they come across dead or diseased wild birds, they shouldn’t be handled as – regardless of H5N1 – they always pose a disease risk.
