Awards for Lewisham staff: outstanding contribution to the environment

Six members of staff will receive special recognition for their hard work and outstanding contribution to improving Lewisham’s environment this Valentine’s Day, 14 February. The award ceremony will form part of celebrations to mark the second anniversary of ‘Love Lewisham’ – the Council’s recycling and environmental awareness campaign.

Staff nominated for special praise include those involved in dealing with the emergency consequences of the storm that hit London on 18 January when 80 mph winds were recorded in the Borough and 138 emergency calls were received.

Councillor Heidi Alexander, Deputy Mayor of Lewisham, and Councillor Susan Wise, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, will both speak at the event.

Prior to the award ceremony, Susan Wise said: “The Council greatly appreciates the hard work and dedication of all staff who work tirelessly to keep Lewisham clean and green. In a recent survey, our residents showed themselves to be some of the most satisfied in London with services such as street cleaning. The second anniversary of the ‘Love Lewisham’ campaign is an appropriate time to recognise the contribution of all staff and to give special recognition to those who have made an outstanding contribution.”

Staff selected for an award will receive a gift voucher to the value of £25 and will be chosen from nominations made by their managers. Nigel Tyrell, Head of Environment, will present the awards.
