Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham was delighted to announce on February 9 the Council’s backing of the bid to host the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics in London.
Steve is very enthusiastic about Lewisham’s support for the bid, he said: “There is so much to look forward to, the games will be the single greatest sporting event UK and London. The impact of the games will be clearly visible, with the provision of thousands of jobs, increased transport networks, a platform to showcase our cultural diversity and the creation of new sporting facilities.”.
He added: “Lewisham will reap the benefits of the games for many years, we will be the gateway for participants and visitors, with events taking place on our doorstep. Many of our up and coming young athletes could be part of the British team and to be able to watch them compete on home soil would be fantastic.”
By July 6 the London 2012 Olympic campaign are aiming for a million declarations of support for before the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announce which country will host the games. People can pledge their support to ‘back the bid’ on the campaign website www.london2012.com or by texting the word ‘LONDON’ to 82012.
