Forest Hill School in Dacres Road has scooped a winning award with VT Education and Skills in the Best Use of ICT category at the 2009 British Council for School Environments (BCSE) awards for best practice in UK design and construction of schools.
One hundred and seventy entries vied for top slots across 13 categories at the awards, being held as part of National School Environments Week.
Winners were announced at a ceremony at the Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal FC, on 24 June. Entries were received from architects, contractors, suppliers, local authorities and schools across categories such as the design, building and equipping of schools.
Councillor Robert Massey, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "Forest Hill is a first-class example of a rebuilt school with outstanding ICT facilities. Our pupils deserve nothing less than the best and at Forest Hill, that's exactly what they’ve got.
“I'm delighted that the BCSE has recognised this achievement - my congratulations to everyone involved."
Ty Goddard, Chief Executive of the BCSE, said: “The quality of entries led to intense debate amongst the judges, which is how it should be. Forest Hill School shows that with right resources and approach, ICT can used to create a stimulating and innovative learning environment.
“Our thanks go to all for being willing to invest their time and energy in a project which ensures pupils and teachers have such an inspirational centre to learn, play and teach in.
“These awards are a big ‘thank you’ to all those across the sectors who are helping to make our schools better.”
