MP Gerry Sutcliffe, Minister for Sport, visited Downham Health and Leisure Centre on Tuesday 24 June.
The Minister’s visit was to enable him to experience first hand our state of the art sports, health and community facility funded via an innovative PFI arrangement involving DCMS, Lewisham Council, the NHS and private sector.
The Downham Health and Leisure Centre was officially opened in March last year. It cost £12.8m to build over a two year period.
Leisure Connection is the leisure company operating the leisure function and managing the building issues across the entire centre including the GP surgeries, library and Access Point.
Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, said: “This is a first-class Health and Leisure community facility and I’m really pleased that the Minister has decided to visit it personally."
“Downham Health and Leisure Centre is a brilliant example of what can be achieved for the borough through Partnership working and what’s more I’m really pleased it’s proved to be so successful with local residents and users."
